For the longest time men have
been told by society that it is their role to be the providers of the
family. For this reason the men have come to attach their sense of
validation as “men” on their ability to fulfill this role. Inherently,
and intelligent women possesses the raw materials (brain power) to be
more successful than a man, and this is often translated as a threat to
his masculinity.
Also,
men for far too long have been used to being in the dominant situation
when it comes to the balance of power in relationships. The idea of not
just having to share this power, but also with the possibility of
subjugation can be quite threating to the male ego. While the term
housewife can still be seen in a negative light, the concept of a
househusband or stay-at-home dad is often met with a feeling of pity in
society.
Lastly,
research have shown women to be attracted to strong men and repelled by
men they deem weaker than them, whatever her measure of strength and
weakness is. With knowledge like this out there it makes men insecure
just knowing that a woman may see them as weak and hence forces them to
be intimidated by intelligent women who could be intellectually superior
 to them.
